Surf Etiquette: How to conduct yourself in the water with other surfers

6 General Rules of Surfing

1. Be Safe ,Be Patient, and Have Fun!
2. Who Gets the Next Wave?
The person closest to the curl (breaking part of the wave) has the “right of way.” If the wave is breaking right, the surfer to the outside (furthest left), or closest to the curl, is in position to catch the wave. The reverse is true of a left-breaking wave. Communication is key when catching waves, so call out which way you're going.
3. Respect the Beach and the Locals
You want to keep it light and fun, and hassles with locals will certainly sour your session. Some spots are known for intense localism, while others are mellow.
4. Paddle Around the Take-Off Zone
Paddle around a defined peak or take-off spot to avoid oncoming surfers. A surfer dropping in to a wave has little room to maneuver around you.
5. Hold on to Your Equipment
Surf leashes enable you to spend more time surfing than swimming. However, the leash is best used as a tool of last resort, and not as a means to power through breaking waves. When confronted by a breaking wave, you should try your best to hold on to your board and not let it fly off behind you.
A surfboard has many sharp points, and should be kept under control. If it is difficult for you to control your surfboard, you should choose a less crowded spot until you have mastered the duck dive, or other wave-avoiding techniques.
6. Share the wealth
Don't be wave hog.

Newt's Surf Co. Clean up our Beaches Pledge

Social Media Update
Cameron Got a selfie with a seal and then went surfing with the seal!!!! How cool is that??? This is why we need to take better care of our coastal areas, beaches and oceans. Just because we do not live in the oceans, that does not mean something else doesn't live there. We need to start making an effort to clean up our oceans, if not who else will do it.

Newt's Surf Co. Clean up Pledge:
This pledge is to pick up 5 pieces of trash on the beach, in the water or in the street by the beach and properly dispose of the trash. Slowly but surely we will notice that our beaches and oceans will get cleaner. Its not a solution, but its a start. So please help keep our oceans and beaches clean from waste. Thank you!

Newt's Surf Fish Tacos

Newt's Surf Fish Tacos:
Ingredients:
Beer batter: 1 cup of all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt and pepper (each), 1 cup of beer.
Cream Sauce: 1/3 cup of mayonnaise, 2/3 cup of mexican cream, a squeeze of lime,  2 table spoons of fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of water, a little salt and pepper.
Fish Tacos: Oil for frying, 1 cup of all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, pepper, corn tortillas, 2 cups shredded cabbage, 2 cups of tomatillo salsa.
Directions:
Beer Battered: Mix the flour, salt and pepper in a medium size bowl. Gradually add in the beer while whisking. Set aside and let the batter rest for 15 minutes before using.
Cream Sauce: Add the mayonnaise and crema to a medium bowl. Whisk in the lemon zest, lemon juice and water. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper.
In a large skillet, over medium heat, add enough oil to reach a depth of 1-inch. Heat the oil until a deep-fry thermometer registers 350 degrees F or when the end of a wooden spoon sizzles when inserted into the oil.

On a large plate, combine the flour and salt. Season the fish pieces all over with salt and pepper and coat with the flour. Working in batches, dip the fillets in the beer batter and coat on both sides. Fry in the hot oil until golden brown and cooked through, about 5 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain.

Make tacos with the tortillas and fish and top each with cream, shredded cabbage, tomatillo salsa and pickled jalapenos, if desired.

Surfer Pops

Surfer pops are amazing treats for after surfing in the salty ocean or on a hot day. Surfer pops are frozen juice popsicles that you can bring along in a cooler to the beach. So heres the recipe:

Juice (what ever juice you would like, pineapple, lemonade, etc.)(You can also add fruit)
Popsicle stick
Cup

Directions:
Pour you juice or beverage in the cup and place it in the freezer (until the top starts to form icy). Then place the popsicle stick in the middle of it (have half of the popsicle stick sticking out so you can be able to remove the surfer pop from the cups). Wait until full the juice or beverage is fully frozen, then remove form cup and proceed to enjoy it.
